RE: Sachs 4.2 Carb Issue
OK, well here is an update!
I took the carb to work today and worked on it. Here is what I did:
I took the long end of the lever that actuates the needle valve and bent it to where it was level with the top of the trough that it actuates in. I then took the short side fork of the lever and on the very ends bent each tine up 90 degrees. The fork now fits under and up around the needle valve. Before this the long end of the lever was way higher than the trough and fuel leaked out just sitting not running. There was also a "dead spot" in the movement of the needle valve from the time that the lever was first actuated. Now the needle starts to move exactly when the lever does. I set the Low end needle at 2 turns and the high at 3 turns. After running/warmup of the engine a couple of times and then adjusting by ear since I don't have my tach here today I ended up with Low end needle set at 3 turns out and High at 3 turns out.
I just ran the motor 3 times for 10 minutes each allowing for some cool down time in between each run and OH MY, OH MY, OH MY!!!! This thing runs like a freaking T O P!!! The transition from low to high is smooooth! No stumble, nothing...Just pure raw power!!! This is a beast of a motor. Also, my fuel leaking at the carb intake problem is GONE completely!!!
The only problem that I have now is that I cant get the throttle/idle low enough to where it kills the engine. At the current settings the throttle is set all the way down and the trim is all the way down. This sounds like, RPM wise and engine sound, where I would normally set the throttle for landing. I usually set landing at throttle all the way down and trim at half way. For me Throttle all the way down and trim all the way down would be engine shut off......
Any ideas on this issue?
My thoughts are: check that the butterfly for the throttle is closing off completely. It looks as though it is. The idle adjustment screw is set where it should be as well.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for everyones help thus far too!
