Default RE: Official HPI Blitz Thread!!

ORIGINAL: Lilredmachine

I'm interested to know precisely what any of the Hobbywing products are copies of. Tear downs on the font of all brushless knowledge, RC-monster, show that if anything the larger Hobbywing controllers are better built with equally good components when compared to the Castle offerings. Testing also indicated that the Castle controllers robbed power, with similar setups showing a 6mph defecit in top speed when fitted with the Castle MMM when compared with the Hobbywing EZ-run 120a controller. Hyundai offer a 5yr warranty on any new car, but it doesn't mean people are going to necessarily buy them over an Audi. I'd rather have superior performance and a throw away price tag than nearly inaccessible (but by all accounts good) customer service anyday.

A hobbywing 60a controller from Giant-cod on this side of the pond is 39.99 GBP, a Sidewinder which is less capable in terms of amps and voltage and also less adjustable is 82.49 GBP from Modelsport. Only a mug would buy the Sidewinder. It is also interesting to know that when HPI fitted a brushless system in the Bullet Flux, they didn't use a sidewinder/4600 combo, they used a rebadged Hobbywing 35a/9t combo. Maybe they were afraid they'd have loads of warranty claims like with the Savage Flux HP for burnt MMM ESCs. Or maybe it was just cheaper yet offered the same performance. All I know is, if it's good enough for one of the largest RC companies on the planet, then armchair experts should stop talking smack about them for no apparent reason. And Hobbywing have nothing to do with Hobbycity, they just carry them. That's like saying that you wouldn't buy a new car from a dealer because they had a second hand car on the lot from a brand you didn't like.

Oh, and you are aware that the 15 and 17 series Castle Creations motors are just licenced, downgraded clones of Steve Neu's designs yeah? Because Castle don't actually have the expertise to turn out a decent motor on their own, you just end up with the balls 380 rotored, hot running CMS series of motors that a Hobbywing .5t would blow into the reeds anyday.
Not everybody can shell out a pretty penny or two on top notch stuff. Some will just take there chance with products and make the most of them.
