As you can see from the photos i've rough sanded, filled, sanded some more and repeated the process a few times until it's silky smooth. Perseverance and multiple grades of wet and dry sandpaper are the key...

Tomorrow I shall see if i can find a matching red and silver paint from Halfords before I probably have to make a trip to the paint matchers in Motherwell.
