RE: Shorts Tucano T1-120
I spent 4hours in the garage today looking at the wing seat.
I have come up with some conclusions. about what I am going to do and what the main problem is.
I tried bolting the wings on with out the aluminum rod or carbon rear rod. They don't look to bad in relation to the gaps. The right wing (when looking from behind) has a small gap at the rear where the flap is but the rest looks ok. The Left wing has a few small gaps a long the wing. Looks like the fuse saddle where the cutouts have been marked for the leads to come through seemed a bit proud.
Next I removed the right wing and slide the alloy tube in. worked out I need to enlarge the tube hole a bit more at the lower front. So did this and the tube slid straight in. I then did the same with the right wing. The tube slide in to start with but then was firm and you could see as you pushed the tube in the the wing angle changed slightly. pushed the wing up a bit so there was a slight gap at the bottom of the wing to the saddle. not air gap just moved apart a fraction. The alloy bar was also under tension and pushing up on the left side where I have enlarged the hole as was drilled wrong. There is nothing I can do about this as would be the angle the paper tube is in the wing. I also did the same with the carbon rear rod and I think that it also is slightly out and pushing slightly so may see if I can change one or both holes slightly and get them to line up with no stress.
Also when the wings are bolted on and no rods if you push at the back of wing tip towards the fuse the gaps get smaller,
So I am not really going to let the gap bother me any more. I believe if they could of had another set of wing bolts where the carbon rod is the wing would pull itself together and would not have to worry about it to much. This is not really an option as the servo tray is in the way.
I am going to cut out the tear drop area front and rear then sand back the edges and check for straightness. see pic.

This should help with the wing seating to the side better. Will also reinforce the wing seat area inside where the plywood former is glued in and put a couple of blocks like Bob.s bot was also thinking of using a carbon tube if I can get the right size and glue in between the blocks so the tube slides straight in and give mor torsional strength acrodd the bottom where the wing bolts. Also thinking of doing the same for the carbon rear rod.
Hopefully this will make the bottom stronger and get the wings lined up better. Also need to get new wing bolts as the ones that came with it are showing signs of strain already. Don't know weather to go Dubro plastic bolts or Metal like Bob's. Will probally depend if I can get a set to mach with the smaller dubro or not.
I have adjust the stabilizer carbon rods so they line up OK. Will rough up the area before gluing to get a good bond. Will leave the glassing of the wings at present but need to un glue the formers and re glue. Also need to glue all the landing gear blocks as they are a bit loose and make wheel wells for the wings.
Was also thinking of attaching the gun pods with magnets so can take of and on easy. Not sure yet. May even leave them off altogether.
Hopefully will get time in the next couple of weeks otherwise on am on leave end of Feb for a week and can spend some time sorting it out.
Regards Greg
