Default F-100 Super Sabre Paint question

I'm doing some research on a potential F-100D scheme and know that a lot of them were not actually bare metal, but were painted with silver lacquer for anti corrosion. Question is: How can you tell which? I have seen BVM 100D's in the "Little John" scheme, for instance, done in Flite Metal, but I'm almost certain, from research, that the full scale "Little John" was actually silver lacquer painted.

I'm already planning to do a 100F in FliteMetal, but am also considering a D model, but I don't think I really want to do a second FM job or the SEA, which leaves the painted Lacquer finish.

Here's a couple of the scheme's I'm considering but need to know for sure if they were painted or natural metal in full scale:

Thanks,

David S
