Combustion creates carbon, carbon is black, I'd be a little more concerned about no color in the exhaust residue. Pretty much any oil residue should be dark, that means the oil is doing it's job by carrying carbon away and not letting it build up inside the engine. If you want the oil residue to be cleaner use more oil. What oil are you using?
