Got one sitting here and have a question or two...first time user so bear with me.
First, while turning the thing by hand I feel a tick, tick, tick.... almost like there are bearing with square sides being used. Is this the magnets causing resistance or something else (bad bearing??? I sure hope not!)
That's the magnets, Mark. You'll find that feeling in all of the electric motors people use in R/C. We call that feeling cogging. Some motors cog harder than others. Even inrunners display this though you may not feel it through the gear box.
Second, has anyone mounted this thing with a rear mount and used the aluminum prop shaft adapter bolted to the rear of the motor (in lieu of the standard nose ring mounted method)?
Not this motor specifically, but I've mounted plenty of outrunners this way. In fact, I've mounted more like that then I have using the nosering method. It works fine.
