Is it possible that my friend's VXL-3s died because he was using a 3S LiPo earlier in the day?  He had been doing quite a few back to back speed runs. 

It just seems weird that the ESC died hours after he had been using the 3s and it just happened to occur when he was changing out the battery for other reasons (the car didn't just die in the middle of a run).
