I dont think the critical issue here was overheating (though I did not take an engine temperature reading, may be I should have). When I finished the fuel at the end of the day, the engine was at 60 deg after a minute of so of running, but that was mainly at idle . Note that he tightened the head bolts more. No idea how much that helped but it seemed to.
Not true....
You have
- No compression reported when the engine was VERY HOT
- Compression comes back to normal within seconds of it cooling off
- A Larger Prop
- Consistent "Deadsticks" with behaviour identical to heat issues.
- Switching to a smaller diameter prop ( less load ) solves problems
BTW: You still haven't told me your flying altitude nor plane AUW.
That pretty definitively points to overheating.

I noticed that even at 60-70% power with the 12x8, the hover could not be held. But she wouldnt climb either (if the power is sufficient, she should climb, shouldnt she?).
Again, what is the weight of the plane?

Therefore will try a 13x4 on Saturday. I have also replaced the cowl.
You may also have inadecuate cooling in the cowl.
Please post pictures of how you have cut out cooling holes in the cowl.
That could very well be the problem, particularly since the larger prop would REQUIRE better cooling.

I havent set the CG with this larger 320cc flexitank either
You do have a .46 size plane right?
10oz seems a bit small for a .46.
Which one is it again?
