As with all comparisons of cost versus value, I like to have a more complete picture. What percentage of your income does the cost of your hobby consume? What are your taxes as a percentage of your income? Considering your medicals are paid for, what net monies are available to you for funding your hobbies? In other words, what is the real cost of your flying? I am sure no one cares, but since you brought it up....
I was once told to get a hobby I could afford, I have not found one yet, but I continue searching and trying to find ways to reduce my hobby costs. I am switching to gasoline, running in conversion engines, versus glow and limiting my plane costs by rebuilding rather than buying new ARFs. Many at my field crash and just buy a new plane with a new high end engine. And then complain about how much it is costing them.
