Brian, it's probably not you, it's the plane. I had the electric Airstrike and thought it was me also......after flying glow models for a while, I couldn't keep the Airstrike in the air. I even had a more experienced pilot fly it to make sure it wasn't me, and he couldn't keep it up either. They're just plain junk. I've had a few other electrics that fly MUCH better than the megatech Airstrike, Capitol Flyer, Skyliner electric planes.
