Personally I have run the S/S kit "crap" the integy Kevlar kit "OK" and the stock red fiberglass brakes "love them"
I use the hitec 645mg servo for both steering and throttle/brake. As we all know it's a great servo for a great price. Yes I've had the red disk either break off or fall off or shatter but when put on correctly they last the longest. I enjoy doing high speed runs in my XL and then slam on the brakes. I haven't adjusted them for 2 gallons and I get all four to lock up.
Truth is get on eBay get a set of each for cheap as hell and try them out to find which you prefer
I guess it boils down to driving style. I can get several gallons out the SS brakes, but only a couple runs out the red brakes. The SS brakes better and don't require as much duration for me. I can turn the wheel and tap the brakes with SS kit and it pitches the truck where I want to go.
