Default RE: Chicagoland Classic Pattern Contest 2011

After attending for the second time the Chicago Classic Pattern event I would like to thank Rusty for once again putting on a successful event. You out did yourself by not only having the classic pattern event but added the classic TOC event. While attendance for the TOC was low it was very spirited and Ibelieve it will grow. It was really neat to see how the airplanes have progressed from the beginnings of the TOC. We were fortunate to have Mike McConvilles Zlin (78), Dave Burtons Laser (80) and my Laser (82) which really showed how quickly the airplanes progressed in size. The only thing that held it back from progressing more were engines and they certainly came along later. Because of Rustys TOC idea I pulled out of storage the Laser I flew in the 82 TOC and got it flying again. What's even more amazing is I converted it to electric power. I never in  my wildest dreams years ago would have ever thought it would be possible to fly such a large airplane with electric power. We've come a long way baby!  Although the weather was a challenge everyone handled it well and I believe everyone will want to come back next year. We really missed the folks that came last year and couldn't make it this year however we did see some new blood and that is great to see. Thanks to the Fox Valley Aeroclub for the use of their fine flying facility. One of the best I have ever seen and great hospatality from the club members. I really believe if everyone that loves flying the classic pattern planes would come to this event it would become "The Nats" of Classic pattern. Wouldn't that be great! If you didn't make it this year make plans for next year and go out and spread the word. Rusty has put a tremendous amount of time & effort to make this event a success and the only way to keep it going is for everyone that loves classic pattern to attend. Thanks again to everyone and hope to see you all next year.
