Default RE: DLE 111cc Auto Start System

ORIGINAL: spete2000

Hi All, I know this is the DlE 111 post, but, maybe someone can direct me to the correct area. I can't think of a better scale looking engine than the OS 4 cyl. flat four, four cycle engine. The only thing that I would like for it, would be to turn it into a gas burner with spark plugs and an ignition system, and to have an electric starter system for it. I know it can be done, but the Titanic can fly too.

Thanks all for your assistance.

Steve
Hi Spete,
OS flat 4... i think FEMA have manufactured the start system, it has 2 versions; the rear mounted motor with extended shaft to the front, and another one is topside mounted motor. It may not be very elegant but it works.

To convert that engine into a gasoline engine is too simple to mentioned it here. Even though the sequence of firing for this flat 4 is one at a time, the current twin ignition unit for gasoline 2 stroke engine will do the job just fine. Off course you need 2 of them, single magnet with 180 degrees apart pick-up sensor and some 20 to 30 degree advance timing (should be changeable during setting up to suit your rpm range).

The only problem is the carb itself, linear flow carb just don't cut in for gasoline (change of atmospheric pressure as height changes is having more impact on gasoline engine than nitro as gasoline itself rely 100% oxygen from ambient to combust), perhaps you need to mod the carb mounting to suit a walbro style carb.
