Classic TOC Laser 200 build!!
Hello everyone.
First of all........I am very excited to be doing this build thread, and I am also thankful that Rusty Dose, has asked me to do this for him.
Any of you that have been following the "classic pattern" thread, knows that, Rusty is working very hard at bringing back the TOC style of competitions. In may of this year, he put together a classic pattern meet, along with.......what I believe to be the first type of TOC contest since the famous TOC contest ended in Las Vegas.
Just a little bit of background about the TOC.......There has been no other event that has shaped the face of R/C precision aerobatics like the “International Tournament of Champions”. The format brought together the finest FAI pilots from around the world competing for a special trophy, earning a part of history AND prize money. The maneuver schedules required different approaches and design paths creating innovation of model design, control and propulsion systems.
In 1978, the "Tournament of Champions" (TOC) organizer's Bill Bennet of Circus Circus Hotel & Casino , Art Schroeder, Editor of Model Airplane News, Jerry Nelson, Contest Director changed the format from little toy pattern airplanes to scale outline planes with a minimum of 800 square inches for monoplanes and 1000 for biplanes. The maximum size limitation was 2500 for monoplanes. These changes required the invited modelers a tremendous challenge of designing eligible models as well as execute new, more difficult maneuvers.
Rusty and his elves, have been working together making up short kits for the Laser 200. I will be framing up 3, Laser 200 fuselages and tail feathers. One of these will be electric powered and one will be powered with a Webra .91 on a gear reduction. I am not sure at this time how the third will be powered. Two of these will be going to Rusty for completion, and the third will be going to Dave Guerin.
So follow along, post comments, questions or anything else that is relavent to this type and style of flying. Hope you enjoy, and here we go!!!!!!!
