Default RE: AE SC10 4x4 Build

ORIGINAL: Cossey

Maybe you guys can help me. I'm HIGHLY debating on getting an Associated SC10, but can't choose which one. The SC10 Factory Team (2WD) or the 4x4 kit? Currently, I'm leaning towards 4x4.

Also, any recommendations for ESC/motor combo? I don't plan on racing really, but the local track doesn't have any specific classes for motor turns, 2 or 4 wheel drive, etc. So it may not matter much. I was considering using my Flux 2350 ESC and motor, which if I have read right, it's a copy of the Mamba Max Pro and a 2350Kv motor capable of running on 4S. I don't know if I'd be able to fit one 4S or two 2S batteries on the truck though, so maybe get a motor/ESC optimized for a 2S or 3S setup.

I'm also considering a Slash 4x4, but I think I'd prefer a kit as I want to enjoy the process of assembling it, which won't happen w/ a Slash.
It depends.

The 4x4 will definitely be a better basher. It's 4wd, and the chassis is PURE BEEF. Not that there are any real weak points in the 2wd SC10/FT, but if you get a 2wd SC10, definitely go FT.

For the 4x4, ThunderbirdJunkie is running a Mamba Max (not the pro, the old one) with a Castle 1410 3800 motor that comes with the Sidewinder SCT combo.

ITBJHO, if you ARE going to race it, and you're fairly new and don't have to have the newest/best crap out there (ThunderbirdJunkie is a serious sufferer of the "gottahavits"), get the SC10 FT. The ball diff will drive you nuts unless you read a LOT on building/maintaining them, but you can get away with lighter duty electronics. The SC10 Factory Team will teach you to "Deal with it" and you will learn how to drive if you're starting out racing with 2wd.

ThunderbirdJunkie would recommend a Novak Havoc 3S/10.5 combo for that.

The SC10 4x4 is "more truck". It's a blast to drive, it's faster than ****, and it's tough enough to make a drive through out of an aluminum'd out Slash 4x4.

Either way you will not be disappointed.
