I appreciate you sticking up for your fellow countryman, however your statement is just not true. A gyro isn't needed in a helicopter either, we use them because it makes them MUCH more stable. A gyro in a plane does a lot for buffeting caused by the air and gives a much more solid "flying on rails" look and feel. For those looking to 3D, they can also be a tremendous aid. Some call it cheating, but I guess it depends on what your intent is. If your intent is to put on a great show, good for you. If you are having a "who can do 3d the best" competition, then maybe it is cheating.
If you don't like them, don't use them. But I can tell you I have yet to hear of an RC plane crashing because of a gyro and adverse yaw.
