RE: WACO YMF
Ok Guys,
The Wires (Flying and Landing) are threaded at both ends and fit into a threaded socket similar to a clevis and use a jamb nut to secure them. Points of info – the threads are rolled, not cut, to minimize any stress point on the threads. There are no turnbuckles (per se) used on the YMFs/UMFs, YKS and similar. How the wing and fuselage connections are mounted to the structure I do not know as the ends are out of sight and an access panel needs to be removed and replaced to connect and adjust them. Earlier Wacos such as the 1928 GXE had external hard points for a clevis to attach to on both the wings and the fuselage.
P-1 same as before, the 1937 YKS horizontal stabilizer wire end with clevis and jamb nut (not secured). The fuselage still needed to be covered and the tail surfaces needed to be removed before hand.
P-2 Upper wing ends on the 1987 YMF NC 14081. Note the 2 access plates in front of and behind the wires.
P-3 Fuselage end on the 1987 YMF NC 14081. You can just see the end of the socket the wire threads into. The panel is split just in front of the wire for removal/replacement.
