You've already answered your question: it's not a beginner's plane. Plenty can be done with a trainer, especially one of the more aerobatic ones like the Hobbico Avistar (very popular at my club). An Avistar and an instructor at a club (or at least a proper flying field) will give you a good initial experience to build on however you want to. Have a look at the beginner resources in the sticky at the top of the forum. The path to becoming an RC pilot is very well beaten and you can't go wrong doing it the same way it's been done before. Skipping steps generally leads to failure, which then generally leads to quitting.
