Yes, I painted them over white also, after I took the picture I put the cowl on and realized it did not show up very well. I was thinking about glow in the dark paint also.
I have glow in the dark paint, used to paint my model rockets with it for those dusk launches. Made it easier to find the rocket in the dark.
Anyway the only problem is that you have to shine a light on the paint for a few minutes before it will "glow". Might be tough to do with the cowl on. I be interested if it works though.
