RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Here a a few pics and results from tuned pipe testing with a new DLE 20. The header and pipe were originally used with an OS 120 AX. I had to make an adapter plate for the header to fit the DLE. The 120 AX has much wider bolt spacing. As a result the port matching is way off but seems to work fine. The props are more APC pattern type props as I don't have much selection of wood props. In addition to the ES 120AX pipe I also tried the ES 26G pipe which gives very similar result but I can't make the wrap around header short enough for this pipe on the smaller size props. A standard side exhaust header would work fine. The pipe was adjusted trombone style for each prop. I forgot to bring a tape measure so I can't give header lengths. Forgot the camera too so running pics are low res cell phone. I did not try the stock muffler.
I was very happy with the DLE. It's generally 300-500 behind the OS 120AX depending on how much nitro you give the OS. If the DLE were modified to run on glow I expect it would just as strong as the OS. I don't know how the two engines would compare on stock mufflers. A two stroke without a tuned exhaust is only half an engine. Of course running on gas has it's advantages and the DLE runs perfect.
I may put this in an older pattern plane, replacing an old YS. The APC 16x10 looks perfect for this at 8600.
All figures given are with a fully hot engine and the needle set to flying mixture, not squeezed for every last rpm. Hot restarts are one flip, no choke. I used a standard RCEXCL ignition not the stock one. Works great.
