The convenience store that has the kero has been around for 30 or more years. I suspect the tank has been in the ground that long, too, and I doubt if they ever sump it, check it for water, etc.
That's why it's best to go to a high volume gas station. They would typically have fresher fuel and be disciplined to keep their tanks maintained.
