Default Norvel conversion heads

After reading about the good performance numbers with the Norvel conversion heads, I got a bit curious and had to get one of these heads too.

I'm starting to feel like a grumpy old man, but I'm a bit disappointment with the machining. It just looks like a really poor job on the sealing surface. It seems to be crudely hand worked after the the other lathe work, and the sealing surface is both uneven and highly conical while the beginning of threads are damaged too. Are all heads like this?

The threads will not engage the way it is now and I cannot see how it could possibly seal either if one could mount it. Guess I can rework it in lathe, but surely one shouldn't have to be doing this kind of machining oneself...
