Default Dave Brown RCFS

I have had every version of the Dave Brown RCFS since version 4.0. I will have to admit that the earlier vector graphics left a lot to be desired but at the time it was released, there was no such thing as 3D graphics and there were no computers with enough power to generate 3D graphics if it did exist. I used the old RCFS and it helped a lot in my early practice sessions. That is to say that a simulator does not have to perfectly duplicate the physics of flight nor the image of the model to be beneficial.

I now have RCFS version 5.0 and RF G2. I much prefer RCFS over G2. For one thing, it was far less expensive and I did not have to upgrade my system to get it to operate. When I loaded RCFS, it worked on the first try. When I loaded G2, I had to make several changes to settings to get it to operate.

A lot of people will tell you that G2 is far superior when they have not even seen RCFS or, for that matter, FMS. As far as which simulator to buy, that strictly depends on your preferences. Would you want one that will help you but will costs basically nothing? FMS would be the best choice. Would you want one that is a moderate price range and offers full support? RCFS would be your choice. Do you want the top of the line with all the bells and whistles and money is no object? Then definitely go with G2 but this does not necessarily mean that you are getting the best.
