I used the "investment" argument on my mom to buy a motorcycle... she laughed at that.... and I laugh at your "investment" statement now.
A radio will never be an investment.. investments grow in value. RC radios like every electronic item, is exponentially worth less and less as each year passes.
You might as well just figure that you are going to spend (invest in your lingo) $500 to $1000 per year for radio equipment... that is why people are upset.
Spending that amount still does not guarantee that you won't loose a plane to a radio problem. You spend $3000 and some clown next to you spent $60... do you trust his radio not to jam yours?
