RE: FUNJET
Surprised not many have gone for 8S setups or higher cell counts.
Many people "ALREADY" have identical packs. 2 of them can be used in series to feed a powerful motor.
Castle Creations ICE ESCs are good for 8S....many people already have ICE ESCs or are interested in getting them for the data logging feature besides being good ESCs.
Since many people already have the packs, that means a good motor selection (after research) will lead to some incredible power and speed.
3S+3S=6S MAX Voltage for many of older ESCs, MAX Voltage for ICE Lite.
4S+3S=7S
4S+4S=8S MAX Voltage for ICE ESC.
5S+4S=9S Needs HV ESC, or ICE HV. (12S max for most HV ESCs)
5S+5S=10S....and so on.
One pack in front of another, Heavier pack in rear.
***All cells must be identical, Same manufacturer, same "C" rating, same mAH, Close to same conditional and performance.
I would raise the cutoff voltage just a small bit for added insurance.
The more power that you have, and the faster that you want to go: Remember, minimum acceptable prop size requirement needs to get raised.
A prop that works at 130 MPH may not be big enough for 170MPH level flight.
(So high Watts without enough prop size is a BAD combination)
The larger prop and higher power together will require more capable motors. {Generally larger/longer and lower KV, maybe higher quality}
ICE 100A ESC
4S-2500 65C + 4S-2500 65C = 8S-2500 65C
……. Add Killer motor here, and big enough prop for your combination of power and speed(maybe APC Pylon pending combination).
8S-2200 45C
9S-2200 with HV ESC
Choices are endless.
What parts do you have that you can design around?
Have fun fantasizing!!!
Note: due to cubic rule; Doubling the power will get you 25-26% more speed.
3 times the power: 44% more speed
4 times the power: 58% more speed
50% more power: 14% more speed
