Default RE: Turbinator on 15.5lbs?

ORIGINAL: jetsett

I'm thinking about getting a Turbinator ARF. I've seen lots of video with it flying on Kingtech (18 lbs) Wondering how it would go with 15.5 lb thrust?

Thanks
One question I have is where do you fly? We have one that is scratch built with the longer wing. Its a bit heavier (maybe 2 lbs) than the ARF and we have a P-70 in ours. On pavement, it will get off the ground in as little as 150' However, we flew it on a (somewhat rough) grass strip a month ago, and the P-70 was not enough power to get it off the ground comfortably. In addition, we find the vertical to be a bit limited with the P-70. We're going to convert ours to a P-120. It will be overpowered as Ron says, but its easier to dial back the throttle then coax an underpowered plane off a grass field.

BTW, I'm not the kind of guy who spends all day ripping off max. speed passes, I just want power to fly off grass and have enough vertical to be able to tell you're flying a jet - a P-70 doesn't give you that in a 22 lb (dry) Turbinator. I think something along the lines of a P-100 or Rabbit would be perfect for a Turbinator. I would not be happy with 15 lbs in a Turbinator at all. YMMV...
