As long as you can get the fuel tank situated to be centered on the carb or slightly below the carb, you are OK.
if the carb is higher than the fuel tank, the engine might tend to want to lean out more as the fuel tank gets low.
But usually if the fuel tank isn't too low, you can richen it up more and it works.
