RE: Why Is 3D Hated?
I"ve been around IMAC and 3D for a long time. I will agree the the 3D guys do get a good shre of flack but I also see where they have brought it on themselves. R/C has had a long tradition of: you get a trainer, takeit to the club and join, get an instructor, solo, get a more advanced trainer, learn some more, get a low wing trainer............By todays standards, very boring process. No wonder we can't get the young guys or gals interested. So when someone comes around and starts hovering over the runway with his big expensive airplane the traditional kind of guy starts grumbling. The 3D guy ( in most cases ) hasn't been in the hobby all that long and has no idea what most of us have been through learning how to fly ( AM radios with no features, slow non centering servos, heavy overbuilt airplanes, ect ) So when he is justifiably proud of his accomplishments of being able to torque roll 2' off the ground and do a rolling harrier figure eight at 10' he is labeled as arrogant and a rule breaker. Then anyone who shows up with the same type of airplane is suspect as well. We need to look at the big picture better. R/C is at a defining moment in time. We have the ability to go and buy RTF airplanes now that opens the door to new blood that the hobby needs. I think we can all do better at understanding one another if we really try, all this segregating of the groups does is hurt the hobby.
BTW 100% opinion here as it is a peeve of mine, 3D and Freestyle are NOT the same and IMAC contests very rarely have freestyle events anymore.
