The exhaust back-pressure theory would not be too big of an obstacle for the engineers to overcome and figure out.
So I ain't buyin' that being an ex-auto technician and race enthusiast.
Besides, they didn't build these to last 20 years, they were to just get out in the field and make a difference ... if it had been built. So motors and fuel mileage were the last things on their minds.
