Please do not use moth balls - they are very toxic and can make you very sick - if you have animals like a dog it could kill them if they eat a few. Lavender and cloves mice and rats hate both. What you really need is a mouser( big male cat) and all your mouse problems will be gone.
As far as the voles and/or moles - new sod is not going to fix the problem, you need to get rid of the bugs in the lawn that they eat. Grubs is their favorite so go get yourself some grub killer and put it down now before that new sod gets tracked up too. Bubble gum also works great, the moles/voles eats it and their mouth gets stuck after and they die.
Also almond spread works better than peanut butter -caught 5-6 mice in one hour with it.Been there and done it!
