A couple things:

Nothing wrong with hand reamers, just make sure it has the right step size. Metric or inch.

#1 Ream from the back/engine side of the prop. (as already mentioned)
#2 Hold the ream tool stationary and rotate the prop. It'll be more likely to have a hole that's square to the mounting surface that way.
#3 Balance the prop last.
