Mark that mesh is designed to be a spark arrestor and trust me it plugs up.I replaced many of them working on chainsaws and weedeaters when i had my small engine repair shop.Im sure the 20 to 1 oil ratios didnt help .I think steel wool in an exhaust is a bad idea.Baffles are the way to go.
