It probably has something to do with the fact that the radios are capable of doing Mode 1 and Mode 2 in the same radio. I'm not sure. Do you remember who you talked to?
When you said the RPM changed, I presume that you meant that when you gave a little pressure against the stop, the throttle lowered?

Yes, the idle goes down with pressure. I adjusted the throttle to not stall with the pressure, but the idle is too high for normal flying as in stall turns and spins.
