RE: Sig Rascal 110
freedogg and zippi
The reason I exchanged wings with freedogg was because he was getting less than one inch of down travel in one aileron due to a hinge being pushed in too far. I believe that 1" of down travel is perfectly adequate for normal flying. In fact, my plan is to use freedogg's returned wing on my own personal airplane.
If a pilot thinks the aileron response of his Rascal is too slow (after test flying), one way to make them more effective would be to program "differential" travel (less down movement, more up movement) into the radio. There is a lot of UP travel available in the ailerons.
The aileron travel in this current lot of airplanes is completely adequate for normal flying, in our opinion. While the amount of down aileron travel in some of the airplanes is proving to be a little less than I would have liked, it's still acceptable. As I mentioned, I have contacted the ARF manufacturer about increasing the available throw in the future, but that is several months off, in a later production run. That is all we can do at this point.
If you truly want to make the Rascal a 3D airplane, you will have to cut the hinges loose and install new ones with a wider hinge gap. That's the only thing that will let you achieve the amount of travel you want.
