My roommate however is not new to RC cars as he has around 9. I however only need 1 (well 2 chassis 1 FWD and AWD). I dont plan on doing in races or anything. My roommate says the best brand is HPI and I should buy HPI. However I do not know what the difference is between HPI Cup Racer and HPI Switch. I am fairly sure one is for competitive race tracks and lower to the ground which I dont want because I will be playing with it on parking lots.
Could someone please explain the differences?
-Does the one I need come in both FWD and AWD?
Is he correct about HPI being the best brand?
-If so do they make a carbon fiber chassis?
He says they can all use a brushless motor is this correct?</div></span>
OK, firstly, the switch is a very basic model. It's only FWD. The Cup Racer as you note is 4wd. They are both pure ten cars (not 1/12th, more like 1/11th, but they are simply called pure ten) which is a little smaller than the average 1/10th touring car. The cup racer is a feature rich chassis made of fiberglass, with options for inboard or classic style front suspension. It's primarily a drifter and a track racer, however, there aren't many clubs running this class for drift or grip, so it's really a parking lot drifter/racer. There's a world of difference between the features and quality of the switch and cup racer, the cup racer is a much higher level car.
HPI are not the best brand in any of the classes they offer product in. They are however a good solid choice in most classes. They are not generally racetrack ready cars, which is not important to you since you are parking lot bashing, HPI is as good a brand as you will ever need.
They can all use a brushless motor setup.
