One of the many cherished friendships that I have forged over my years at Danville has been with Martin (AKA Ex-Pat Tanker). Being British he is naturally a little odd. Having started my 31st (it hurts to just say it...) year as a cop
I KNOW ODD. But then again... almost all of us this hobby are probably over-qualified for that title. So I guess Martin is in good company. He has since returned to GB from his stint in Michigan with the Ford Motor Co. and we still keep in touch. This March Brett (AKA Bennyb), Dennis (AKA DLApalm), Steve (AKA Shark47) and I, will be heading across the pond to Bovington for the Tiger Day at the Tank Museum. We discussed this event last November here on RCU and we four diehards have decided to check this one off as DONE on our "Bucket List". Martin and several of this "mates" will be joining us. We also hope to take in several other historical & military sites on the same trip. I was to Bovington in 2009 and had a great but short visit. Bovington is the "Smithsonian Insitute of Tanks." They give these iron chunks of history the home and praise the deserve. The tanks, artifacts, models, building & staff are all first rate. We have been hearing rumors that the Tiger may not be ready in time but my buddy Martin has put our fears to rest via this youtube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fza741Vo8js .
Any ideas on what WW II military sites or museums we should see on our trip to Europe? We hope ot hit Samur and Munster too. If anyone else will be attending the Tiger day 2012 ... please contact me.
