Dave Ramsey actually doesn't teach people not to have hobbies. He teaches people not to let hobbies keep them in debt. I've listened to him a lot and he's talked about having the toys- the jet ski, boat, country club membership, etc. He teaches that those things are good as a reward for yourself after you're debt free and can afford them without stopping retirement saving or other financial responsibilities. It's good advice and very helpful in getting the wife to be ok with my toys.
