Which upload tool are you using (the "BETA: Mulit-File Upload with Progress Bar" link or the "Click here to upload image files" link)? I never had any luck with the BETA tool, but the regular tool works reliably for me every time. It usually only takes me a few moments to upload 3 - 4 files (typically around 200k or so per file). It also might be a problem with your internet connection. Some ISPs will really throttle your upload speed. You can use this link to to test your connection www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ . I typcially see 16-17MB dowload speed and 7-8 MB upload speed via my cable connection.
