You could strap the ESC to the motor - they say it's water proof - You could wrap the ESC unit in a Balloon to add to the water proof integrity.
Which ever way - you will have the same overall length of wire from the batteries to the Motor.
I dont know if its best to keep the 'short' output wires - and rather longer battery input wires ( ADVISE FROM THE BRIGHT SPARKS PLEASE)
I know it best to use Thick wires with low resistance and good 6.5 mm plugs.
Batteries in the sponsons could work - I will start with mine in the center so as to be able to move them around to play with the CG.
