Default RE: Removing Tight Thrust/Drive Washer?

ORIGINAL: blw

Richard,

I got my separator and puller for about $40 at Horror Freight. These are really all you need, and not the $99.99 pullers at some auto parts stores. Some are reasonable, but these are plenty good enough. My puller is a 3 prong that has a more simple construction. This is the only puller pic I have right now, but you can get a good idea.
You can also use the bearing splitter with a steering wheel puller. The STW has a bar with slots that you run bolts through to thread into the splitter. Then a large bolt goes through the threaded hole in the center of the bar to contact the crankshaft end. Turn the large bolt after snugging everything up to pop of the drive washer. Heat and tap as necessary. "Good Night and Good Luck" (Good movie).
