Don't be so hard on yourself man, 2mm is bugger all on a cowl cut out and yours is by no means a screw-up.
I spent ages on my Ultimate cowl nibbling away at it for an absolutely perfect fit... 1mm all around the engine head and spark cap... man was I happy with that. The plane dead-sticked the first two flights... guess why?
Overheated.
I went home and opened it up by an additional 3-4mm all around and never had another overheating problem.
Like you say, this is a learning experience and we all get better each time.
