Yes it does need to fly well unless you have a big credit card to keep replacing planes and cameras. I know a Gopro is durable, but it's not made to be drilled into hard ground at 30-40 mph. And no, those beginner planes aren't going to carry a Gopro around and still fly like they are supposed to. Actually, they barely fly like they should anyway, so the extra weight definitely wouldn't improve things. Like I said, a used Super Cub is the best chance you've got. Of course, you'll need radio gear and a lipo charger too. I suppose such a package may come up once in a while from someone who has lost interest in the hobby, but not often. But if you're hoping to make one of the low end "everything included" packages work, it's just not going to happen.
