Default RE: Equipping Tiger Tank

Generally tanks do not carry a lot of goodies hanging all over them. As a rule of thumb and taking in to account Murphy's Law, anything outside will often be lost. And they NEVER had ammo or weapons stored outside. Tools would generally be in their brackets, said brackets being thoughtfully planned and arranged so that the odd tree branch or fence did not remove the tools in passing.

On road marches you would see the 200L fuel drums on Tigers, but again never in combat. Why? When holed the stuff tends to burn, and since gravity works, of course the flaming liquid will run down in to the engine compartment and do unkind things to your motive power.

Tigers were generally more pristine than most German tanks. Not a lot of junque hanging outside. Sometimes you would see a helmet or two hanging on a track hanger, or a water can. Only photo I ever saw of a Tiger 1 with jerry cans was one with a special bracket made at the right rear of the hull to hold a couple, made on to the rear hull plate below deck level. Cammo netting is also rare to see on Tigers, and I've yet to see a photo of a Tiger in combat with netting. Foliage yes, netting no.

The internet is your friend. Punch in 'Tiger 1 E' and see what comes up. When you find photos, not only look but SEE. Pay attention to the details.

Here's a few, including the one of Porsche Tiger in service on the Ost Front. Notice he is in a combat zone, and notice almost nothing is hanging on him.
