RE: Small ignition
Those old points engines didn't have the auto advance that is built into most all of the current electronic ignitions. In fact, they didn't have carbs. Just a wide open intake and a spray bar. Get it running, and adjust the ignition by ear and launch straight up, or if you were flying CL, let her rip. In either case, WOT and dead stick landing. Some years back, the CDignition was adapted for RCuse. The trouble was there was no automatic advance, so a mechanical advance needed to be incorporated. The auto advance on the current crop is head and shoulders above either.
If you were to modify the engine to use points, the Coil, Capacitor, and batteries would be near the same size as a battery and electronic ignition of today. The noise off the points spark setupwould drive our radios nuts. There were no shielded plug wires.
The RCexcel Ignition modules I have are the same size as the old school CDmodule.and seperate coil. and not much bigger than the old point and coild setup.
