Since this is your first gas engine I would suggest you ask someone more experienced with them to take you safely through the normal starting technique, so as to aquaint you with how the engine behaves.

That's a BIG +1. Simple pieces of equipment really but at the same time, they bite a finger off in a heartbeat if you're not careful.
