No, you don't just show up with a plane and enter. You will need to contact Frank Tiano or one of the officials, and send them photos of the plane along with some general information (size, who built it, whether or not it is a kit, or was built from plans or scratch built from your own design. If Frank feels that there is an interest in the model, or if the model has some significance, then you will be asked to provide more information, and then you may get an invitation.
This is done to keep the more basic planes that you would see at the local events out of the top echelon of competition. There is a class for the more basic plane and that is called Pro Am (AM). Why don't you give it a try. You can always work your way up to the higher classes of competition,
