Wow , thats a bummer Steve. Really would hate to see you get out of RC  Tanks all together. The 1:24 th stuff is a lot less popular than 1:16. Look how long it took us to get a regular group of guys together, so I can imagine it would be twice as hard for 1:24. Great for winter indoor battles though.
