RE: Nitro Models Rutan Defiant
I dowbt if anyone still has one of these models to maiden yet but thought I would add my experience of this model and its COG.
I read everything availible on line about this model and knew there was a thrust/balance issue so left mine in its box for two years.
ThenI seenone fly on youtube I asked the pilot where his cog was and he said 1/2 inchaft ofthe leading edge of the main wing and to add 1/8 positive reflex to the ailerons.
With this information I thought it was time to fly her so I set the cog as above and added the reflex, took her to the field and told everyone there to expect a crash, Well it could have not gone any better.
She needed a few clicks down and after that flew like a trainer, cog is spot on at 1/2 inch, thrust lines are spot on as se never climbs on power or dives at idle, floats in at slow speed with ease, its a strange model to see in the sky but flys very well. I rolled, spinned and had her inverted on the maiden.
Nice plane with proper cog.
