Well I've never used nitro, however using PVC pipe on a various surfaces with a brushless system on NiMh I never need to go past half throttle, and generally star around a fourth or a fifth.. I don't think this would be to hard on a nitro engine but it depends on the power and weight.
I'd just recommend purchasing electric, really...
And of course, that vehicle starts as a dedicated drifter. Maybe he just want's an on-road car that
could slide?

Edit: Looking at the video of the car (
http://www.hpiracing.com/videoplayer/3/) that worries me. It has rubber tires, and says "full throttle drifting" and that car is going very fast....
